My Top Five

To conclude my series featuring my family’s trip around the world, I’d like to highlight my top five experiences from our travels. While we had so many enjoyable activities along the way, these moments really shined bright in my memory.

5. Rooftop Pool at Marina Bay Sands Hotel in Singapore

I was excited to visit this particular pool on our trip since my family had a chance to see it featured in a movie ahead of time. What we didn’t realize was that it also offered a lower deck where sunrise yoga was held, and several fantastic restaurant options were available. We tried Lavo Italian Restaurant, and it was a treat to dine while looking out at the beautiful lit up cityscape.

We spent much of our time in the pool as well. The infinity edge offered the perfect opportunity to take pictures, and look out at the breathtaking views. The attentive wait staff also added to the whole experience.

4. Chateau de Chillon Castle in Switzerland

This castle took my breath away. It’s located right on Lake Geneva, and has the backdrop of the Swiss Alps across the lake from it. The castle boasts many famous visitors over the centuries, and my family and I enjoyed the opportunity to explore its many nooks and crannies. There were tunnel areas underground to walk through, as well as above ground areas with fantastic views.

We traveled by train from Geneva to the castle. The train ride there was also a wonderful experience in and of itself. I loved the chance to see so many beautiful views of the Swiss countryside.

3. Vivid Light Show in Australia

I knew I would enjoy this artist driven spectacle that lights up the city of Sydney once a year, but I wasn’t prepared for just how magical of an experience it was going to be. Seeing the many modern and historic buildings lit up with dancing bright graphics to music was mesmerizing. There were also so many top notch restaurant choices surrounding the shows. The illuminated sculptures were also amazing. I’ll definitely be back to see this event again!

2. Camel Ride in the Moroccan Desert

While this excursion was one I was a little skeptical of from the start (that camel lifts its rider up off the ground from a lying down position), it proved to be one of the most unique moments from our trip.

It was such a treat to be completely immersed in the culture of the North African desert with a stop off at a local home. I’m so thankful that I kept an open mind, so we could have the chance as a family to have the experience together.

1. Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima in Portugal

I think this particular stop was extra special for me because of its history with our family. My husband’s great-grandfather sent flowers to his local church every year on the Feast Days of Fatima, and had a very strong connection to this holy site. We believe he had a chance to visit Fatima during World War I while he served in the U.S. Army. It left a strong imprint on his heart and ours as well.

That’s a wrap for our around the world series. Thanks for traveling along on my family’s adventure for the past several months. I appreciate the chance to reflect on and share some aspects from it that really were special to us. Keep an open mind to new adventures because there’s a wonderful world waiting to be explored!
